Deich. House of Photography

In 2027, the former main library in Oslo, Deichmanske Bibliotek, will be reborn as a center for photography. The historic building from 1936 will house a photography museum, galleries and a theatre, as well as restaurants, cafés and bars both within its walls and in its surrounding area. Everything will revolve around photography in all its diverse forms.

Deichmanske Bibliotek retains its name at its new location in Bjørvika. As part of a three-year project, the first step was to develop a new name that honors its rich history. The chosen name, Deich, is an abbreviation derived from the original name.

In celebration of this new chapter and to signify a fresh beginning, we restored part of the beaten down neon sign from 1969, with the letters of the new name. The illuminated facade will proudly display the new name until the grand opening in 2027. Stay Tuned
